Year 10 Sport Science

The programs present an excellent opportunity to significantly cut your workload, whilst ensuring students gain a solid foundation for upper school PE Studies. 

 

Description

This Applied Sport Science course offers a comprehensive and in-depth exploration of the various aspects of sport science and how they can be applied to improve performance in sports and exercise. With 40 lessons, students will gain a broad understanding of the key concepts in anatomy and physiology, energy systems, fitness testing and training, training principles and methods, nutrition for sport and exercise, biomechanics, recovery strategies and injury management.

 

Key outcomes

  1. An understanding of the human body and its physiological systems, including the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems.
  2. Practical knowledge of fitness testing and training principles and methods, including the principles of overload, specificity, and reversibility.
  3. An understanding of the role of nutrition in sports performance and how to develop effective nutrition plans for athletes.
  4. Knowledge of the various energy systems and their role in exercise and sport performance.
  5. An understanding of the principles of biomechanics and how they apply to human movement in sport and exercise.
  6. Knowledge of injury prevention and management strategies, including rest, rehabilitation, and injury prevention programs.
  7. Knowledge of sports technology and equipment, including equipment design and technology, injury prevention, and training aids.
  8. Preparation for WACE exams, including study techniques and tips, sample exam questions and practice, and revision and review strategies.

Package 2 - Revision and summative assessments

$25/head (+GST)

Utilising the ReviseOnline platform for delivery, the package includes

  • Summative assessments - 3 topic tests (Functional Anatomy, Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics) and 1 investigation (Exercise Physiology) delivered digitally or in hard copy (revised each year). 
  • Weekly revision material - multiple choice only and delivered digitally so no marking!
  • End of topic revision material - 2/topic delivered digitally and includes short answer & multiple choice

 

The packages are designed to complement each other for delivery over a semester. Year-long adaptations are available.
